A day in Artà, Capdepera, Manacor and Sant Lloren des Cardassar

Inspiration for a weekend day trip

In the northeast of the island, things could not be better. The so-called “Península de Llevant” is intriguing due to its hilly landscape reminiscent of Tuscany – it is just one big beautiful natural park. Providing a habitat for many rare bird species, it is a heaven for ornithologists. It is also a golfer’s paradise – not for nothing do you find here three of the most beautiful golf courses on the island! What makes Artà and Capdepera so captivating are the small, idyllic fortified villages and historic houses. In this neck of the woods you will find beautiful natural bays uncrowded, even in summer, and which invite you to relax. In the autumn and winter months this area is also good for hiking. 10.00 am: Is there anything nicer than strolling around medieval Artà? I love this place with its special atmosphere. A walk to Santuari de Sant Salvador pilgrimage church is always worthwhile. The route is clearly signposted. Taking the cypress-lined steps you will reach the castle-like complex with its striking crenelated fortress walls. From there you have a fantastic view over lovely countryside towards the Bay of Canyamel.

11.30 pm: Once back in the village, domusART is a “must see”. There you can browse around as much as you like and may even find a lovely piece or two that will always be a reminder of a lovely day in Artà. Restaurant & Bar “Total” offers delicious lunch menus or light snacks. It is centrally located on Artá’s promenade.

2.00 pm: Now we continue our trip through pristine countryside to Cala Torta. The bay is perfect for letting your spirits soar. But be careful if you decide to swim! High waves and strong currents are very common. Of particular beauty – and not far away – is Cala Mesquida. Here you can walk for hours along the sea front on a specially built footpath.

5.00 pm: Visit Capdepera with its encircling battlements. In this medieval 17th century town, you will follow in the footsteps of historic events and exciting pirate tales. Especially beautiful is the medieval market which is held every year in mid May.

6.30 pm: On your way back it is worth a visit to Aston Living and Unicorn in Manacor. Both shops are located on the main road to Palma. Many accessories and decorating ideas will give your home that special touch or maybe you will find an unusual gift with the typical Mediterranean flair.

8.00 pm: For the perfect ending to a wonderful day: Felix Trappe at Es Patí Restaurant will tempt your palate with his creative delicacies. His wife Sarah, an expert in her field, will certainly recommend one or two good wines to you.
