The bridle path of archduke Salvador, Valldemossa

Winter in Majorca is the best time for hiking. The Tramuntana mountains, world nature heritage, attract with severeal 1,000 meters peaks, well signed paths and fantastic sea view.

One of the most beautiful paths is the bridle path of archduke Salvador. Constructed in the 19th century the path leads on a altitude of approx. 900 meters above the coast line of Valldemossa and Deia. Partly only 2 meters wide, this path requires head for heights, a semi condition and good shoes.

We start in Valldemossa, parking next to the football camp. Continue the signs to TEIX and you will reach a gate at the end of the urbanisation of Valldemossa. From the gate you climb up a small, winding path. After approx. 15 minutes you reach a plateau. Pass the stone wall and continue to climp, the old stone wall on your right hand side. After another approx. 20 minutes you will reach the final plateau, have a fantastic sea view and can decide if you want to hike via north or south.

We go south, left hand side along a path high above Deia and the west coast of Mallorca.

Whe we reach a sink, we do not go to left (back to the 1st plateau) but climb up again to a small hut and continue our sea view path. This paths as back to the plateau and the same way down to Valldemossa.

In total, you need about 3-4 hours for this slope.

Back in Valldemossa, go for a coffee and the tipical „coca mallorquin“ – a cookie made of potato flour. The best place is the bakery CAN MOLINAS, known for its cocas since more than 100 years!
